Mon, 9/5, Cap't Brian Simmons on the Bill Chaser was at the 50 fathom line, just south of the Washington Canyon and practically had White Marlin jumping into the boat. Lots of little black tuna and bait balls everywhere.

Sunday, 9/4 was a great day for most, choppy in the morning, then the wind layed down & the fish were biting....

Cap't Bill Petka had 2 White Marlin, one's in the photo. Sat, 8/21, he caught a Long Fin Tuna.

Cap't Nat Atkinson on the Foxy Lady had several dolphin. Byte Me had lots of dolphin too.

Cap't Bill Tyson - Marlin Magic chartered the Harbin party and they caught their first White Marlin and several dolphin. The lucky guy jumped off the dock, assuring he will catch another Marlin in his lifetime.

Teaser chartered the Vankleya party and had 2 Wahoos, one was a citation. They also had about 38 Dolphin, near the Washington Canyon.

Check back for Nita Dream's report, they had just about all their flags flying - Happy Birthday to Frank & Nita!

offshore fishing is getting closer to the dock

Many reports of small to gaffer dolphin caught around the wreck site sand the 21 mile hill. Wahoo were also reported around the 21.
In the Washington, small yellowfin , dolphin and marlin are the common theme.
Be prepared to take time off on short notice, the white marlin bite should be off the hook anytime now. The blue fin hopefully will also make a strong run.

Nita Dream at the ESMC Tournament

Had a great time at the ESMC Tournament this year, the weather (Wind) was a little hard on us but we still caught some nice fish.

Friday started out really nice with light wind we made it to just shy of the Washington Canyon for lines in, we had fished about an hour when we were HOOK UP on a White Marlin it only lasted a couple of minutes before he spit the hook but he gave us a great show coming out of the water a dozen times in that short order. We trolled for another hour before our next hit but this fish did not come out of the water but stayed near the top so we weren't sure what we had but after about 20 minutes we had a nice 61 pound Yellow Fin in the boat then just a little while later we had two fish on that both turned out to be nice 50 + pound Yellow Fin. By this time the wind was up to 20 MPH with the waves building we started trolling for home then just before lines out 3:30 we missed a nice Wahoo at the boat and landed another nice Tuna

At the end of the first day we were in 1st place in the Tuna Division with a 61 pound Tuna

Saturday with a forecast of 15 to 25 Knot winds we decided to stay in the few boats that went out caught a couple fish but they paid for them. Sundays forecast was even worst (20-30 Knots) so we stayed at the dock again the few boats that fished Sunday had a rough morning but the weather got better in the evening and there were a few Marlin and Tuna caught and at the end of the day when the final boat weigh there fish White Bite had won the Tuna division with a 65 pound Tuna

Off shore Action

Marc Quin aboard "Little Rock" with a colorful gaffer.
The fleet has moved to Sam's Hill, Lumpy Bottom to find Bluefin, yellowfin, White Marlin and Dolphin. The Bluefin have been in mixed size groups with some days in the 35" range up to a Jumbo released by a Wachapreague angler of 77" this week. Many Whites were either caught or in the spread tearing baits up. The action is alive and the weather has been great.

Flounders are still around

Keeper flounder can still be caught out of Wachapreague. Anglers are releasing an average of 30-50 fish a day and are still able to put keepers in the boat.

These flounder were caught on July 6.

Bluefish

Ed Smith on his 21' Shamrock was covered up with bluefish at the 15 mile hill. Multiple hook-up after hook up eventually wore him and his baits out. The bluefish were used the next day to catch a nice 125 lb mako in the same area. The blue fish were between 10 to 15 lbs.

Bluefin Fever

Teaser Charters with Keith Neil showed 1st timer, Jim Beletti what tuna fishing was all about with 13 released bluefin and kept one 42". They left Wachapreague at 4:30 am and caught all their fish before 11 am. Jim had hook ups of two and three at a time.Teaser went to Bob's canyon from the 26 mile hill and had a large blue marlin momentarily hooked up.
Very exciting trip.
Teaser is a 4 person charter aboard the first class 2002 28' Carolina Classic.

The entire group, 30-40 participants, caught 100's of flounder.

Off shore action heating up

Over the last two weeks the in shore hills have produced many Mako and Thresher sharks. Mako's have been caught on the fast troll as well as chumming. The blue fish have been all over north and south of the lumpy bottom. Small bluefin tuna were caught in the same area.
